Unlike most UV Gravity filters the UV light is not encased in a quartz sleeve (thus eliminating issues of scaling, quartz tube replacement and frost damage). Instead the water is passed below the tube and with the help of a reflector the UV light is reflected onto the water.The water then cascades onto the sponges below. As the near edge of the sponge clogs up the water spreads further out onto the sponges prolonging the life of the sponge. NB the average life span of a UV bulb is 12 months and will cease working before it stops glowing. It is recommended that you change your bulb each April ready for the summer sun.
It has a flip up lid for easy maintenance, profiled filter sponge pads for mechanical filtration and SUPRA biological filter media in a removable tray. This posesses over 100 times the biological surface area of conventional plastic media. The specific structure of Supra enables rapid growth of aerobic bacteria resulting in removal of lethal ammonia and nitrite.
The inlet is fitted with a multi hose connector and will accept 19mm (3/4"), 25mm (1") or 32mm (1 1/4") hose. The outlets can either be positioned over the edge of the pond or 38mm (1 1/2") tubing may be fitted. NB the instructions may refer to a Blue sealing ring on the multi hose adaptor. The multi hose adaptor design has now been altered to include a ridge and therefore no longer comes with or needs the blue sealing ring.
